Enrol now · Self-paced onlineAbout this course
Build practical skills for preparing and serving safe, nourishing food in a New Zealand early childhood centre. This course is designed for centre cooks, relief cooks and day-to-day managers working with National Programme 2. It covers kitchen food safety alongside menu planning, nutrition, age-appropriate textures and communication with educators and parents.
Follow fictional Kōwhai Early Learning through deliveries, storage, cooking, cooling, meal service and a supplier recall. Work through detailed examples covering allergies and special diets, parent-provided food, infant feeding, food textures, focused eating supervision, menu substitutions and manager handovers. Interactive decisions explain the consequences of each choice. Each lesson includes a knowledge check with feedback. The course uses colourful text slides and practical cases; there are no videos. Allow approximately 3–4 hours, including activities and assessment.
Complete all 14 lesson checks, then pass a 30-question final exam with at least 24 correct answers (80%). Successful completion earns an Access Food course-completion certificate. The course is not an early childhood teaching qualification, MPI or NZQA accreditation, approval of a centre, or automatic proof of workplace competence.
The fee is NZ$50 plus NZ$7.50 GST: NZ$57.50 total per learner. Enrol through the existing secure student account and payment process.
